In the 1950’s, Morumbi neighborhood started to be developed in Sao Paulo, welcoming architect houses and wealthy families. Oscar Americano (1908-1974), an innovative engineer from Sao Paulo, and his wife Maria Luisa, have lived there for 20 years.
Brazilian architect Oswaldo Arthur Bratke (1907-1997) conceived the house in 1951, and won with it the special mention of the First Sao Paulo Biennal. Bratke was one of the most discreet Brazilian modernist architects, although his work has been exhibited in MoMa (NYC) in 1956 and 1988.
The house is made of a simple structure, with tiny pillars. It includes a collection of art pieces from 17th to 20th centuries, and an English tea house. But the real jewel is to be found in its modern architecture, as well as in the surrounding park, full of plant and animal species from Mata Atlantica forest.
